Electric Book Works Publishing reinvented for the digital age

Project manager

We’re looking for an experienced project manager to join our team full-time. We create publications for thought-leading organisations, and publish them as print books, websites, ebooks and apps. We’re known for being innovative, and for creating positive social change. You’ll liaise with clients around the world and coordinate our team’s work on their projects.

To do this job, you’ll need to have experience managing complex creative projects, ideally in web or book production. You might also come from another creative industry.

We’re a small team who are open, friendly and supportive. We’re very organised, highly transparent, always learning, and we’re good at delivering high-quality, finished work on time and on budget.

We’ll be looking for someone with top-notch communication skills, and the ability to translate between technical concepts and real user needs.

When we imagine our new team member, we reckon:

  • you’ve been managing multi-person projects for at least three years
  • you’re known for being meticulous and super organised
  • you’re confident with software, and tech-savvy
  • you solve problems independently
  • doing meaningful work that’s good for the world is a priority for you
  • you have happy, healthy relationships with clients and colleagues.

What does a project manager do?

You’ll liaise directly with our clients, and coordinate work on their publications. Your day-to-day work would include:

  • creating costings and planning documents
  • managing production work and team capacity
  • briefing the production team
  • running meetings with clients and team members
  • monitoring and revising project schedules
  • keeping clients updated and answering their questions
  • creating documentation
  • making judgement calls about costs, quality and speed
  • helping to improve EBW’s systems.

In order to do this, you’ll apply and grow your existing project-management skills, and actively develop a solid grasp of our tech and workflows.

Money, time, and location

This position will be a full-time, long-term contract, which may become a permanent position. We expect to pay a salary of around R30 000/month. (That could vary substantially: we might offer less to someone junior, or more if you are more senior than we have in mind.)

While you will work remotely, we’d prefer you to be based near Cape Town for team gatherings.
